Ok, be honest and tell me who started singing The Dixie Cups "Chapel of Love"?
Yep, you guessed it! The Love Bug and I are getting married! I gotta tell ya, before her I just thought I knew what love was. It seems that once I decided to BE HAPPY, everything in my world fell into place.
I know, weddings are so much fun right? Well, for the guests they always are. Let me tell you one thing, planning a wedding is like a FULL TIME job! On top of working from home trying to get all the details ironed out for our BIG DAY is taking alot more work than I anticipated. Now I know why wedding planners make so much money.
You have to pick out the dress and the invitations and the cakes and then what colors you are going to decorate with... Heavens to Betsy it is alot to take on. So far, we have been pretty efficient and we have some amazing friends who have helped us along the way. From spools for decor to cakes that taste divine, our friends are by far the best ones EVER.
Now let me share with you one piece of advice when it comes to all of this planning. Please set yourself a budget. One thing we did which pretty much has saved the day, is set ourselves a budget. We have a budget for the ceremony and reception then another for our honeymoon. Having this in place really helps to know what you can spend on what.
Now the point of this article isn't to talk about how much there is to do for planning the wedding. Even though, I could more than likely write an entire piece on just what all you need to do. I wanted to write this piece because yesterday, I spent the ENTIRE day online looking at honeymoon vacation packages.
I started with Sandals because I know several people who have used them before and let's face it, after all this wedding planning, having an all inclusive vacation will be just what we need. After they lady told me it was going to be a little over three thousand (yes, $3,000) for just a 4 night vacation, I kindly told her she had lost her ever loving mind. Second, I moved on to Google and found several resorts that offered the same "perks" of being all inclusive. Royalton and Secrets seem to be super popular around the Caribbean. We've been told to stay away from Mexico so I tried to avoid any of those resorts. Anyway, after all of these resorts told me they were wanting basically my kidney in trade for a honeymoon package, I decided to take a gander at some discount sites.
Now, I don't know about ya'll but when I have something that I got super cheap I am the FIRST to brag about it. "Oh, you like my hat? THANKS! I got it from the Dollar General." This type of thing runs in my family. Ask my Bubba about his story with the shirt. You'll get a kick out of it.
Anywho... I went to travelzoo.com and allinclusiveoutlet.com and even hit up Groupon. Now, keep in mind that I wanted to have our honeymoon and airfare all in one. If it weren't for that I would have used my personal concierge service through my company. Which their deals on the resorts were BY FAR THE BEST prices out there. Alas, I needed the whole kit and caboodle so I couldn't use them. Now, the Love Bug told me about bookit.com and let me say that I was thoroughly pleased with this site. You could book your flights and change to the times you needed and also look at the entire resort and all the rooms they offered. They also have discount codes for members. Even a live chat option where one of their customer support members helps you with any questions you may have. I don't know about ya'll but that is a life saver. When somebody can answer all my questions right then and there, I am ONE HAPPY CAMPER. So here I am looking on this discount travel site and BOY OH BOY, there are a ton of luxury vacation destinations out there! So now, we have to figure out which tropical destination we want to spend our honeymoon.
I don't know about ya'll but I just want a tropical environment with a cold drink in my hand. I don't care if the toilets have booty sprayers or if the balconies only have one chair. I plan to plop my COUNTRY ASS in the sand and enjoy my time with my woman. This is OUR trip together. I believe that the world has too many options these days. Now, we did narrow down the destination to the Caribbean because well, Mexico and all the drug cartel non-sense was OUT. Anything in Europe just didn't appeal to us in our "honeymoon conversation" and really, I'm not keen on no AC. So, we took our chances with the Dominican Republic. Yes, I know what you are thinking. Woah, the DR in October?? Isn't that hurricane season? Friends, bookit.com has travel protection! They helped me with this because if something happens to the weather and we end up missing out because of Hurricane Miss Grumpy Pants, we are completely covered.
So, what it all boils down to is, enjoy the time planning your wedding. Set your budget. Use a discount site to book the honeymoon and always always always get TRAVEL PROTECTION.
